Vallée de Joux, so heisst ein schmuckes Hochtal im Waadtländer Jura. Auf 1'000 m ü. M. herrschen raue Klimabedingungen, die Muldenlage kann zu klirrender Kälte führen. Flankiert von der Mont Risoux- und der Mont Tendre-Kette fliesst die Orbe talabwärts. Sie entspringt im französischen Les Rousses (1'085 m ü. M.) und fliesst wenig später dem Waadtländer Dorf Le Sentier (1'013 m ü. M.) entlang. Anschliessend mündet die Orbe in den Lac de Joux.

Im Winter bildet sich auf dem Lac de Joux regelmässig eine tragende Eisdecke, welche zum Schlittschuhlaufen genutzt werden kann. Im Sommer wehen im Tal oft starke Winde, weshalb der See viele Windsurfer anzieht.

Le Sentier blickt auf eine lange Uhrmachertradition zurück. Diese Feinindustrie war -- und ist auch heute wieder -- in der Region fest verankert und wichtige Arbeitgeberin. Ein Anziehungspunkt im Tal ist heute das Centre Sportif mitten in Le Sentier. Es beinhaltet unter anderem ein Eisfeld und ein Schwimmbad.


Vallée de Joux is the name of a picture-perfect high valley in the Vaud Jura. At an altitude of 1,000 m above sea level, climate conditions are tough, and due to its location in a hollow, the cold can be bone-chilling. Flanked by the Mont Risoux and Mont Tendre mountain ranges, the river Orbe flows down the valley. It rises in France, in Les Rousses (1,085 m above sea level), and subsequently flows along the Vaud village of Le Sentier (1,013 m above sea level). After that, the Orbe flows into the lake Lac de Joux.

In the winter, the Lac de Joux regularly freezes over solidly, so people can go ice skating there. In the summer, there are often strong winds in the valley, which is why the lake attracts many windsurfers.

Le Sentier has a long tradition of watchmaking. This fine industry was, and still is, firmly rooted in the region and is an important employer. Nowadays, the Centre Sportif in Le Sentier is a great point of attraction in the valley. Among other things, it sports an ice rink and a swimming pool.
