Описание к видео Stories from South Tyrol | The musical forest

Violinmakers have been coming to the Latemar forest in South Tyrol since the time of Stradivarius.
Violinmaker Paul Lijsen is once again searching the Latemar forest in South Tyrol’s Eggental valley. “Am I the first?” he asks forester Michael Baumgartner. Being the first is very important when looking for the right tonal wood. Paul Lijsen swore to himself that he would never be too late again, only to discover that another instrument maker had marked HIS tree.
Since the days of Stradivarius, instrument makers have looked for the best tonal spruces in the forest around the Latemar massif. They tap on trees until suddenly they cry out: “This is the one!”

How can they hear a violin just from a tree trunk? Paul Lijsen himself is at a loss to explain. Join him as he searches for the perfect tree…
