In this video we continue playing with rhythmic displacement. The phrase starts on the "& of 2" instead of beat 1.
"Minute Manipulations" is a play-along series for improvisors who want to take a small amount of musical vocabulary from the masters and dig deep into different ways to make it their own. Each video is one minute long and focuses on one variation of a classic jazz phrase.

The first series is based on the opening lick from Max Roach's "Blues for Big Sid," from his album Drums Unlimited. I play the phrase (or variation) and you repeat it after me. We go back-and-forth for a total of 32-bars.

After learning the phrase by ear/eyes from the video play on your own at different tempos and interchange with different variations of your own. Subscribe to keep up with the new videos and I'll share transcriptions at the end of each series.
