A hatchet Restoration of a tattered German ax

Описание к видео A hatchet Restoration of a tattered German ax

Hi to all!
Restoration of a rare, German, vintage HELKO WERK ax. The first step is to inspect and disassemble the ax. Its head was in good condition, only the blade was deformed. Therefore, it had to be fixed with fire and a hammer, re-hardened and a small amount of rust removed with a wire brush and a grinding machine with coarse and fine fractions. The ax, as I said earlier, is rare and vintage, so I didn't want to apply different engravings, especially since the corrosion and stamping of the metal left a good impression on it, which makes it original. The metal was polished, both the upper and the lower part of the ax to a shine (with fine sandpaper).
The old ax handle was too damaged. I had to make a new one and replace it. In my opinion, it will be interesting for you to see how the handle is made with your own hands. Therefore, for this purpose, I took the trunk of a young dry ash tree and chopped it to the desired shape. Using the sample, I cut out the handle, polished it. Covered with cast oil, which contributed to its vintage appearance, as in the old days.
The ax turned out wonderful, with the smell of antiquity. It lived a second life.
I am waiting for your comments and subscription.
Before meeting.
