In this interview, Ed Woods recalls his experiences serving in the United States Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War. He explains his reasons for enlisting and comments on how inadequate their training was before they were sent to Vietnam. He remembers arriving in Da Nang during a firefight and the heat and odors he experienced. He describes his unit's duties as they supported various Marine Corps installations as well as the living conditions and food there. He recalls assisting a medical unit as they unloaded body bags from helicopters and remembers experiencing a B-52 raid. He comments on the music of the era and how hearing that music can bring such clear memories of his time in Vietnam. He reflects on how veterans are viewed today and how his military service informed the rest of his life.
