I watched a Donald Miller video this morning where he talked about what he believes people look for in a sales person. What he said people want in a sales person is empathy and authority.

I've never been a fan of 'salesperson' because I don't want sales people, I train them to be 'sales professionals' and there is a huge difference between the two.

What I believe buyers are looking for in a sales professional is a partner. They want someone who can understand them, can help them solve their problems, and be honest with them.

I'm sure empathy and authority are useful in sales, but the bottom line is that buyer's want a sales professional that listens and understands them, is capable of solving their problem, and is not lying to them.
