Random Jam #7 [spooky ambient w/ Volca FM, 0-Coast, Keystep & Ditto X4]

Hey gang, you can now support what I do on Patreon :   / aldoistaken   You can get some cool stuff in return like sample packs, guitar tabs, sneak peeks or multitrack recordings of my jams. Love y'all! (Patch note below)

For this one I got inspired by the Monologue + looper series from the amazing Couleurves, my attempt is not anywhere as good so be sure to check out his channel if you haven't already :    / @couleurves

Alright so the setup is pretty straightforward (hey look no Digitakt!) : I simply looped the Volca FM and the 0-Coast with the Ditto X4 pedal. The Ditto is stereo, so I plugged each synth in one of the inputs, that way I could record the Volca and the 0-Coast parts separately. This allowed me to slightly remix the overall balance later in the DAW. I used the Keystep to control the synths and I set them both to the same MIDI channel so I could layer their sounds together in some sections. I especially love the sound at the beginning, the Volca plays the melody while the 0-Coast sounds more like a cheap drum machine.

The patch on the 0-Coast is quite simple too, I ran the Gate output of the Keystep to the Tempo input of the 0-Coast. That way, each time I press a key, a new random voltage is generated. I split it with the Math section and used it to animate the timbre a little (by modulating the Overtone and Multiply circuits). I also used the Mod wheel output of the Keystep to control the pitch of the synth, which allowed me to create those weird sounds at the end. For this I also used the Keystep built-in arpeggiator in Random mode and set it to the max speed.

As I previously mentioned, I recorded the 0-Coast and Volca signals separately then mixed them together in the DAW. I added some reverb and the whole thing goes through Ozone 5 and L3 Ultramaximizer for mastering. Some minor edits here and there too.

And that's about it! The keyboard is definitely not my forte but it was fun to try something different. Also my arm kinda gets in the way of the video sometimes, sorry about that. Anywayyyy, thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy your sweet summer time, peace!
