An Afternoon on the East Broad Top

In May of 2023, I joined a couple of friends on a trip to the Altoona area. On Friday, May 5th, we visited the East Broad Top Railroad.

Headquartered in Rockhill, PA, the East Broad Top is a narrow gauge railroad that was slated for abandonment in the 1950's but was ultimately saved thanks to the efforts of Friends of the East Broad Top organization. Over the years the organization completed multiple restoration projects to bring the railroad back to life, including returning EBT 2-8-2 #16 to service not long before their 2023 season began. Today, the East Broad Top is going strong and continues to rehab other sections of the line that haven't seen service in years.
