"Sign In Stranger" is a cool Funky Jazz Rock tune by Steely Dan from the album The Royal Scam released in 1976. Bernard "Pretty" Purdie is the drummer on this track and most of the album. Bernard is known as a real character and for his "Bernard Purdie Half-Time Shuffle" that has influenced many drummers. This tune however, features a groove with a funky Reggae feel that you can hear variations of, on songs like "Kid Charlemange" and "Haitian Divorce." Also, another BP trait that you can hear near the end of "Sign In Stranger" is Bernard playing a fill over the barline.
It was a great challenge to transcribe this tune but even more challenging to reproduce and cover the song note for note in a single take. DISCLAIMER! There are some mistakes and even a little of my own thing in there. I hope you enjoy it.
If you would like a pdf of the transcription in this video please feel free to contact me through my website
