Sri Dharmaraja Pattabishegam | Firewalking Festival 2107 | Sri Mariamman Temple

The penultimate ritual of the Firewalking Festival: The 18 day long Kurukshetra war has ended and the Pandavas emerged victorious, defeating the Kauravas. The Pandavas, together with Droupathi, returned to Hasthinapuram. As per the wish of the people, the eldest Pandava prince Yudhishthira (Yudhishtu/ Dharmar/ Dharmaraja), took to the throne and became the King of the Hasthinapuram Kingdom.

In Sri Mariamman temple, the coronation ceremony of Yudhishthira is reenachedted as Sri Dharmaraja Pattabishegam. Idols of Sri Veerabathirar, Sri Krishna on Garuda Vahana, Sri Arjunan and Sri Droupathi Amman are taken on a celebratory procession around the temple. On the following day, the Manjal Neeraduthal ritual is conducted, concluding the entire Firewalking Festival.
