Bharat Bandh, Farmers Protest Today Live News Updates: A day before the government’s crucial sixth round of talks with representatives of protesting farmers, Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday met a group of 13 union leaders in a bid to break the deadlock, news agency PTI reported quoting its sources. The meeting which began at 8 pm is currently underway. Leaders including Hannan Mollah of the All India Kisan Sabha and Rakesh Tikait of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) are present at at meeting.

Meanwhile, Opposition parities have announced a meeting with President Ramnath Kovind on Wednesday at 5 pm. The joint delegation of five members will include Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar and others, said CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury as quoted by ANI.

The nationwide bandh called by farmer unions in protest of the Centre’s three farm laws wound to a mostly peaceful close. The farmers, mainly from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, blocked key roads during their ‘chakka jam’ protest from 11 am to 3 pm today. Shops and commercial establishments were closed, transport affected and traffic disrupted in many states, with the maximum impact felt in states such as Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. Protesters blocked railway tracks at several places in West Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha. In Delhi, the markets remained mostly opened even as more farmers congregated near the border areas despite heavy security.

Congratulating farmers for a peaceful Bharat Bandh, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said the unity showcased by the farmers through the ‘Bharat Bandh’ has underscored the need for a repeal of the farm laws.
