Gbbo's Jürgen Krauss Shares His Love For Sackbut, Sci-fi, And Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte

Описание к видео Gbbo's Jürgen Krauss Shares His Love For Sackbut, Sci-fi, And Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte

Jürgen Krauss is one of the most beloved Great British Bake Off competitors ever... his shock elimination after the 2021 semi-final gathered numerous complaints from viewers. Additionally, musicians were delighted by his performances on the sackbut, the ancient trombone, and the exposure of this style of music to a wider audience. My dear friend Isobel Daws, one of the great stars of the trombone world, performed on Bake Off with Jürgen on the 2023 Christmas Special and introduced Jürgen and I. We arranged for a weekend of music and baking, specifically he taught me to make a Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte or Black Forest Cherry Cake- make sure to pay attention to the great advice!

This was topped off with a wild Burn's Night Supper with complete with bagpiper and a recitation of Robert Burn's Ode to a Haggis. If you haven't heard of Burns Night, it celebrates the legendary Scottish poet Robert Burns and includes plenty of whiskey as well as the mandatory haggis and bagpipes! This poem is recited brilliantly in this episode in Scots dialect by my friend Felicity Bryson, a link to the poem can be found here:

All bagpipe performances were by Dr. James Libbey, former bagpiper for the Canadian Armed Forces.

All early music was performed by Quatricinia:

These recordings were recorded by Josy Peschon in the Saint Nicolas Church at Soleuvre (Luxembourg) and made available by www.fce-lu.com which can be heard Friday mornings at 9 a.m. in the program «A PROPOS - Quatricinia» on FCE Continuo webradio, Luxembourg.

Finally, at the end of the video you will see Juan Ullibari performing on the Alboka, a traditional Spanish instrument that has some similarities to a bagpipe.

All original music was composed by me and performed by Leon Ni, co-solo trombone of the Luxembourg Philharmonic and me.
