VIDEO DESCRIPTION

Why we don’t use a crib and my experience using a floor bed. Why we use a floor bed, our experience, and the pros and cons of using a floor bed.

I’m pregnant with my second child and just like our first child we do not have a crib or a fancy nursery set up. So we had no baby nursery when she was born. Eventually did set up a minimalist nursery that would be considered a Montessori nursery. The Montessori philosophy encourages the use of a floor bed to give children independence and freedom of movement. They can get off and play with toys then back on when they are ready to sleep or fall asleep in awkward positions anywhere in the room.

Why do we use a floor bed?
Cheaper and lots of money saved because there was only one bed to buy. Plus there is no transition from a crib to a toddler bed to a twin bed. We can easily sleep with her especially for co-sleeping, nursing, or just comforting the child. Baby can’t climb out of bed or get stuck in the railings. The mattress we have is 4 inches so when she did fall off the bed. She would get startled her but not hurt.

Here are the cons or negatives to a floor bed. You have to baby proof the entire room. Baby will roll off the bed so you need to use bumpers, pillows, a barrier so baby doesn’t roll off. You have to bend down to pick up the baby. Sleep training can be tricky and toddlers can get out of bed on their own which could make bedtime harder.
