Illuvatar
We begin with illuvatar, who, in Tolkiens universe is basically God, he possesses the flame impershible, which allows him to create original life

he begins creating with the Ainur, who are a lot like angels, the 15 most powerful are known as the Val-arr, And the remaining group serving under them are known as the my-arr


Naturally, One Vala turned evil, his name was Morgoth, and of coarse, he happened to be the strongest of them all. Forr perspective Sauron and ,”multiple” Balrogs are just his




At a later time Sauron became the big bad in middle earth. A council of the velar decided to send 5 maia to go Agsinst him known as the Istari.

two of these Istari were Gandalf and Saruman, but they weren’t sent in angelic Maia form. Nope, They were sent in the body’s of old men, as they were meant to assist in middle earth, not to lead.

Gandalf actually didn’t want to be sent at all, due to fearing Sauron, but the council decided that fear is exactly why he must.


Children of Illuvtar

Illuvatar also created the Elves and the Men, once again using the flame imperishable.

The Elves awoke first at a time where there was only starlight, meanwhile The men awoke far later, in the days of the first sun. Illuvatar created both of these races, so they were known as the children of Illuvatar.


Men then went many directions, Hobbits are actually distant relative of men, meanwhile a certain hobbit spent far too much Time with an evil ring in a cave becoming Gollum, meanwhile some great kings of men also got seduced by rings and became nazgul



Dwarves



So what about the Dwarves? they were actually created by a Vala Named Ow lay, who created the first 7 dwarves under the mountains, and there names were , Grumpy, Doppy, Sleepy, wait this isn’t Snow White, but he really did create 7 dwarven forefathers.

Dwarven women do exist, but they look exaxctly like dwarven men, right down to possessing a beard, which all dwarves start with at birth.

Ow Lay created the dwarves, but he still needed Illuvatar to bless them with the flame impershible to give them true life giving them the nickname the adopted children of illuvatar.

ENTS


Dwarves then lead to the creation of a new race. a Vala Named Yavanna foresaw the damage the dwarves might do to forests, so she requested that Illuvatar create ents, the shepherds of the trees.
Turns out, it was a good idea, as it was more than just dwarves that threatened these forests.

The ents learned speech from the elves but apparently even the elves couldn’t teach ents to speed it up a little

MORGOTH



This brings us back to Morgoth. He desperately wanted to create life, but as we now know, without the flame impershible he would be unable to do so.

Morgoth though is resourceful, so if he couldn’t create life, he could certainly twist existing life into evil. How he did this isn’t exactly known, but he likely tortured elves turning them into the first orcs. Meanwhile for Trolls, he bread them through existing creatures, desiring them to be a mockery of the ents.


His greatest creation was no doubt the dragons. They too were bread from existing creatures creating the first, Glow rung known as the father of all dragons. Glaurang was wingless, but many future dragons do indeed have wings.

Tom Bombadill



All of this leads us to the enigma that is Tom Bombadill. If you don’t recognize that name, you must not call yourself a hardcore fan as he was in the lord of the rings novels.

. He is a completely jolly carefree character, constantly singing, but he also reveals that the one ring has no power over him, and that saw the beginning of the world. This has lead to theories that he is a maia, a vala or even illuvatar himself, but this is a theory that won’t be solved. Tolkien enjoyed having loose ends, besides he certainly wasn’t the only character with an unknown origin.
