If you are zealous for theology and ministry, for deep biblical studies, research and teaching, and you have a family, wife and children, make sure you have your priorities straight. Marriage and parenting is a ministry, just as teaching and preaching is a ministry. Spending time with your family, raising your children in fear and admonition of the Lord should always have priority over doing research, in-depth biblical studies, and church ministry. Doing God’s work in teaching ministry should never come at the expense of your wife and children – for your wife and children are your ministry God called you in.

A very honest plea from Brother Chris Date for our consideration. Whether you’re already married with children or you’re single and desiring to be married and have children, but you’re interested in theology and considering serving the Lord in some way more than your average church member – situations like this are a good opportunity to examine our hearts, determine our priorities, and search the Scripture as to how God want’s us to dedicate our time in the circumstances He has placed us, and with people He committed to us.
