In the petition filed in the Lucknow High Court, it has been claimed that Rahul Gandhi is a foreign citizen. The court had directed to obtain information from the Union Home Ministry in this matter. Earlier in July 2024, the court had rejected the petition of the same petitioner S Vignesh Shishir saying that if he wants, he can complain to the competent authority under the Citizenship Act.
