Fighting User Requirements That CONSTANTLY Change

Constant changes to user requirements are, errr, constant! It is one of the commonest complaints from software development teams when a project isn't going well "why don't they just tell us what they want". The problem is that this complaint represents a fairly deep misunderstanding of what the act of software development is all about. User requirements are always fluid. They always change. This isn't because the users are stupid, or that our product owners are lazy, it is because nobody knows the answer to "what do they want". This is well recorded over many years, research at Microsoft showed that 2/3 of their ideas produced zero or negative value.

In this episode Dave Farley explores this frustrating, but perenial problem. You don't fix this however dilligent your user requirements example, UX persona or User persona, or your User Experience Design. Software development is an exploratory process of guided learning, and includes learning "What our users want".
