From Church I walked towards Tianfu Square, which was about 20 minutes’ walk away. I was lazy and should have changed to lighter clothing, but I didn’t know how late I’ll be and how low the temperature would drop, so I got quite warm while walking to the square.

Tianfu Square is in the center of the city. There is a big underground shopping mall and used to be the traditional crossing point of Chengdu Metro Line 1 and Line 2 Metro. There are plenty of open spaces to sit and relax at the beautiful park and watch Chengdu’s traffic of vehicles and people. The Chengdu Museum, Sichuan Science and Technology Museum, Sichuan Provincial Library and Sichuan Art Museum are nearby.

The square is overlooked by an enormous Chairman Mao statue, and was once the site of the Imperial Palace. That was torn down during the Cultural Revolution.

I took the metro from here to Chunxi Road Pedestrian Street. It is a popular shopping and night entertainment area. It is huge! Apparently more than 700 shops can be found here. It was rather overwhelming, I thought.

I decided to go find Daci Temple, the Temple of Compassion and Mercy. It dates back to the 3rd century and is designated as a cultural heritage site. To get there, I walked along a street with top brand named stores. It seemed quite an inappropriate location for the temple. This area was not your ordinary type of shopping area. Even the public restrooms at that mall were quite high class. The cleaner was wiping dry the sinks as I was waiting in the queue.

I walked back towards Silver Square, an area with more shops, malls, food stalls and eateries. I kind of felt overwhelmed by the whole area. I found a stall and got a lamb skewer and followed that up with a skewer of squid. I walked on and came across a stall selling sweet soups and got my favourite pear, white fungus, and goodies soup. Then walking a little further finished off with a basket of steamed meat buns.

By then I had enough and headed back. When I got back, the receptionist greeted me and said that some fruits will be delivered to my room. It would be delivered by the robot! Ooh! I couldn’t wait to see how this was going to work. It’s on the video!
