This talk introduces attendees to Mapping the Scottish Reformation (https://maps.mappingthescottishreform..., a database of the Scottish clergy that allows users to explore and visualize clerical careers between the Reformation Parliament of 1560 and the Revolution in 1689. Built from manuscripts held at National Records of Scotland (https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/), this project harnesses mapping technologies to chart the growth, movement, and networks of the Scottish clergy during and after the Reformation. Our website allows users to trace where ministers were educated, how they moved between parishes, their age, their families, their disciplinary history, and more. Mapping the Scottish Reformation aims to be a key starting point for anyone interested in the ministers and their families—figures at the centre of the most important events in Scottish history who left unusually detailed archival footprints. Join us to learn about the project and how digital methods can provide exciting new ways of examining and understanding the history of religious change, social dynamics, political conflict, and more!
