This was a test of the landing gear extension and retraction system after the installation of a new hydraulic pump. The landing gear in the Duchess is powered by an electric hydraulic pump behind the passenger cabin. The test consisted of a normal retraction and extension using the hydraulic pump, a normal retraction, an emergency extension, and one more normal cycle.

The emergency extension is accomplished by opening a valve in the cockpit floor. Opening the valve releases all hydraulic pressure and allows the gear to fall and lock into the down position driven by gravity, aerodynamic forces, and spring tension.

The aircraft belongs to Dash Aviation in Sanford, Maine.
