Considered to be the "God of all 4 cylinder engines". Toyota Eagle MK3 GTP cars which used the 503e engine's ran 130inhg (63.8psi) during qualifying and 100inhg (49.1psi) during sprint races and 80inhg (39.3psi) during 12 and 24hr endurance races. Those pressure equated to roughly 1000hp for qualifying, about 800~850hp for sprint races and about 700hp for 12 and 24hr endurance races. Those numbers were also through air restrictor plates mandated by both IMSA and FIA regulations.

The 503E is a 16 valve cylinder head layout from the 152E engine and the T block crankshaft saddle design were used as design base for this ultimate Toyota 4 cylinder Turbocharged race engine. The 503E represented the most powerful 4 cylinders in competition history.

The 503E was hand-built by Toyota Racing Development in Torrance, California. The 3SGTE was later based on its design. They are NOT the same engine. No 3S-GTM Code ever existed.

The turbo and exhaust manifold on the floor next to the engine are from the latest GTP program
