When I’m working on commercial photography projects without an assistant, I need a kit that is reliable, versatile, and easy to travel with. In this post, I’m breaking down my lightweight Sony setup that covers both controlled, team-based environments and smaller productions for big clients.
My main camera is the Sony A1, chosen for its quiet electronic shutter and ability to handle fast-paced commercial environments without rolling shutter issues. For lenses, I rely on the Sony G Master 28-70mm f/2 zoom when I need flexibility, and switch to primes like the 50mm f/1.2 GM, 35mm f/1.4 GM, and 85mm f/1.4 GM for low-light work and classic portrait looks.
As a backup, I carry the Sony A7R V, which doubles as my go-to for high-resolution hotel and commercial assignments. All of this packs neatly into my Billingham Rucksack 25, which lets me travel in style while keeping my gear discreet and secure.
