United Launch Alliance (ULA) is preparing to launch its final Atlas 5 rocket in support of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). The mission, dubbed NROL-107, is part of the Silentbarker program, comprising of at least two mission launches to begin initial operational capability by 2026.

The NRO broadly describes this multi-payload mission as: a joint NRO and U.S. Space Force Space Domain Awareness mission to meet Department of Defense and Intelligence Community space protection needs and is designed to detect and maintain custody of space objects. This capability enables Indications & Warning of threats against high-value assets in geosynchronous orbit.

On Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, leadership with ULA, U.S. Space Systems Command and NRO held a press conference to address the mission and its importance for on-orbit defense capabilities.
