Playing Guitar Creatively At Church Ep.1 | What To Do When You're The Only Guitar Player?

Music in modern church has changed drastically over the past decade and it seems like guitarists in church have lost creative passion or don't know how to adapt their instrument in a way which lets them play freely and creatively.
I see so many guitarist in church always complain (and sometimes me) Worship music isnt as guitar dominating as it used be and the synths have taken over and i can’t hear my guitar and thats totally okay. We just have to realise that the music serves a bigger picture and that also means a guitar player. We gotta get out of the picture of just being a guitar player and learn how to be a musician and how to play like a musician and not like a guitar player.

every guitar player has their own musical influences and those influences shape the way that you play guitar. Whether your a SRV loving blues person, an 80s Van Halen lover, whether its church guys like Nigel, Stu G, Chieslett, there is a sound within you that comes from the influences you listen to but maybe you don’t really know how to bring out that sound thats inside you with the music thats in church. Well what if i told you that there are ways to bring out your own voice on the guitar at church and you don’t have to limit yourself to 100% exactly what the album is doing but the goal is to make sure that what you play serves and enhances the song as best as possible.

This isnt really a technique video, but these are more of me sharing my concepts over the years which has helped me be creative when it comes to playing at church
This video is how i play guitar and approach parts when I’m the only guitar player in the band. Especially in a full piece band with drums, bass and keys.
How do i get my guitar to fill in the gaps in the sonic space? How can i get my guitar to play rhythm and lead stuff at the same time? Do i change the way I’m playing my instrument? How can i sound full when I’m the only one playing?
