About the Band

Formed in 1978, the Downtown Motion Band came together from late-night jam sessions at a small downtown club called The Groovehouse.
Bassist Marcus “Lowtone” Reed, drummer Troy Bennett, guitarist Luis Navarro, keyboardist Aaron Fields, and saxophonist Calvin Moore built their chemistry on smoke, rhythm, and friendship.
That connection became their sound — organic, soulful, and alive.

On a rainy night in 1979, they recorded the set that became Grooveline Live.
Decades later, the lost tapes were rediscovered and lovingly restored — the true spirit of 1970s soul funk preserved in motion.
