If you want iOS 7 on your iDevice, you are going to need to prepare yourself.
You need to download one of the following Firmwares corresponding to your iDevice.

NO YOU DO NOT EVER HAVE TO REGISTER YOUR UDID -- DO NOT PAY ANYONE 8 DOLLARS.

If you run into trouble, DFU mode is your answer, this will FORCE your phone to go back to a stable iOS (i.e. -- 6.1.4) and restore (SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE)

AFTER YOU'VE DOWNLOADED -

1. Move your file somewhere that you'll remember it will be identified with the following characters at the end, this is called a file extension (ie. .zip) look for .ipsw this is your firmware.

2. Go to iTunes with your iPhone/iPod plugged in, and

Windows Users -- HOLD SHIFT and click CHECK FOR UPDATES (NEVER RESTORE).
Mac Users -- HOLD OPTION/ALT and click CHECK FOR UPDATES (NEVER RESTORE).
3. After you click, it should bring up a menu to find your ipsw file. Find this, and hit open.

4. Click Verify on your computer screen, and wait.

5. IF THIS WAS DONE CORRECTLY. You should now be on iOS 7!

DFU Mode:

To put the iPhone into DFU mode so you can do an iTunes firmware restore follow these steps:

Step One
Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.


Step Two
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.


Step Three
After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.


The iPhone screen will remain black like this:


At this point, you just hit RESTORE on iTunes. Do not hold click anything. Restore to the most current iOS, FROM THERE Go back to the top of this page and FOLLOW ALL STEPS EXACTLY!

NOTE***: It may take a few attempts to get your iPhone into DFU mode. Generally, I hold down both buttons then release the Home button just before I think the Apple logo would appear. If you are still holding both buttons down and you see the Apple logo you are holding them down for too long!
