Nicanor Abelardo - Romanza for cello and piano Op. 8 (VALENTINE'S DAY TRIBUTE)

Описание к видео Nicanor Abelardo - Romanza for cello and piano Op. 8 (VALENTINE'S DAY TRIBUTE)

Abelardo did not neglect the violoncello. He had known the instrument and it became his favorite all his life. He had enriched the literature for that instrument with his Opus 8, the Romanza. Originally, it was for solo cornet, but he found that the piece did not fit the instrument or the instrument did not suit the whole piece. He felt happier when he wrote it for cello and called it Romanza. He dedicated it to his good friend, Antonio J. Molina, who gave it its first public performance. It is not an ordinary piece of writing; it has depth and power but to one who plays it, it reflects a very strong Wagnerian influence. The influence of Wagner and his music and ideas during this period did not stop there. Abelardo named the last three of his children, Rita Brunhilda, Cresencio Tristan, and Cecilia Elsa fro, Brunhilda, Tristan, and Elsa, well-known heroic characters from the Wagnerian opera.
