As the 70th anniversary of D-Day approaches, hear the story of Normandy veteran and life-long Portsmouth resident John Jenkins, who served in the Pioneer Corps.

Visit Portsmouth from 3rd - 8th June 2014 when the city will be marking the 70th anniversary of the turning point in the Second World War - D-Day. A Veterans' Centre will be set up on Southsea Common to welcome veterans travelling to and from Normandy via Portsmouth throughout the week.

5th June - A parade of serving armed forces personnel, Veterans and cadets will march along the seafront to Southsea Common for the Drumhead Ceremony, a multi-faith service remembering those who were killed during the D-Day landings. The day will finish with a Sunset Concert for Heroes.

6th June - Remembrance Service at the D-Day Memorial Stone.

7th-8th June - Come and join the D-Day Experience. A weekend of entertainment and activities for all the family featuring military displays, re-enactments and live music from the 1940s.
