At the Brink: The Dire State of Our Ocean's Health

Описание к видео At the Brink: The Dire State of Our Ocean's Health

Major studies, including those by the Pew Commission and the U.S. Ocean Commission, have revealed that our oceans are facing a critical crisis, primarily due to overfishing, pollution, habitat destruction, and the effects of climate change. These factors have compromised the natural resilience of marine ecosystems, putting us on a path that could lead to the collapse of wild fish stocks by 2048 if current practices continue.

In 2003, the Pew Oceans Commission released a report "America’s Living Oceans" (https://www.pewtrusts.org/~/media/ass...) that outlined 4 major areas of concern. The report concluded that the health of the world’s oceans are in crisis from overfishing, pollution, climate change and destruction of native habitat. In this 2009 interview, Alison Barratt, from the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program discusses the overall health of our oceans.
