Pretty happy with the way this DIY fix turned out and it was less than $15 total (professional repair ranges from $100-200). Thank you to the Carpet Repair Guys on YouTube for this tutorial - I take no credit for the method, I learned it all from this tutorial I followed:    • DIY Carpet Repair At a Transition Strip  

Tools needed:
- Gorilla Glue
- Goo Gone (maybe, if there's a mistake; I didn't use this)
- Box cutter
- Scissors
- Cardboard (or paper) for a template
- Free carpet sample from Home Depot or Lowes

I hope this helps someone else save an apartment deposit too :)
