On July 31, Jetstar Asia concluded over two decades of service as Flight 3K764 from Manila touched down in Singapore, marking the end of its operations after years of financial struggles and fierce competition. Cabin crew and staff shared emotional goodbyes, reportedly saying, “For one last time, let’s go home.”

The closure stems from rising costs, including fuel and airport fees, and tough regional competition. Jetstar Asia only turned a profit in six of its 20 years, and Qantas projected a loss of AUD 35 million this fiscal year. The shutdown will affect over 500 jobs in Singapore, with staff receiving redundancy packages and assistance in finding new roles within the Qantas Group or elsewhere.

Jetstar Asia operated 16 intra-Asia routes from Singapore and maintained a fleet of 13 Airbus A320s. These aircraft are set to be redeployed to Qantas operations in Australia and New Zealand, where new routes are expected to open.
