How to grow Platycerium Superbum from spore - Cyanobacteria testing

Описание к видео How to grow Platycerium Superbum from spore - Cyanobacteria testing

I've been growing Platycerium as a hobby for a few years now and have tried many combinations of growing environments, substrates, fertilizers etc and although i can always get plantlets/ sporelings/ sporophytes to form, I haven't been absolutely conclusive of what triggers them.

We need heat 25 degrees plus, we need humidity 80%, we need gas exchange, and we need the presence of water as the medium in which the sperm from the male organ of the gametophyte (anthridia) swims to the female part (archegonia) to get their game on and produce a plantlet. Even with all these dialled in, sometimes plantlet formation can take some time.

Now if you're impatient (or should i say, an inpatient....) or curious like me, you might be left scratching your head. What i've noticed 100% of the time is the presence of cyanobacteria as soon as the plantlets arrive. The scientific method dictates coincidence doesn't equal causation, so ive done a few tests spraying my sexually mature gametophytes with just cyanobacteria to see what would happen. Is it just the presence of water or is the nitrogen fixing element of cyanobacteria providing the chemical stimuli for the plantlets to rear their beautiful heads?

My theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, my methods are sloppy with conclusions that are highly questionable. But who else you gonna call?

Have fun.
