Last week, I toured Pollinatives, a San Antonio-area nursery specializing in Texas native plants. While exploring the space, Donald shared some great insights on tough, low-maintenance natives that thrive in our climate.

For those dry, sunny corners your sprinklers miss, he recommends Four-nerve daisy, Blackfoot daisy, and Damianita—plants that thrive on neglect and actually prefer less water. (Overwatering? That’s how most people lose a Blackfoot daisy!)

💜 Donald also highlighted Missouri violet—often mistaken for a weed, but a beautiful low-growing ground cover. It’s great in pots or tucked under trees, helping retain soil moisture and adding soft texture.

🍒 Carolina wolfberry is perfect for rain gardens or low, wet areas. It’s easy to propagate, loved by birds, and creates natural shelter for wildlife with its arching growth.

🌼 Craig lily, a rare South Texas native, sends up tall yellow flower spikes and makes a bold alternative to liriope or society garlic. It dies back in winter but returns year after year, making it a great pick for the front of a planter bed.
