Herald Sun journalist Caleb Bond says it is important Australia keeps harvesting its natural resources because they can help provide affordable energy to “lift countries out of poverty”.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting the federal government will soon begin community consultations in Western Australia and Victoria to find sites for more oil and gas drilling.

“There are natural resources sitting there that other countries that don’t have as much money as Australia can use as cheap, affordable forms of energy,” he said.

“And these are the things that lift people and lift countries out of poverty.

“So it’s all good and well for us as rich western countries to say we’ll just leave it all in the ground and go after net zero but that comes at the expense of other people.”
