Finishing The Engine & Getting The Wheels Back On to Our Restored Bedford Truck Base Vehicle …

#54 - Welcome back to the Old Rope Salvage workshop. For anyone new here, we are currently in the final stages of restoring what was a rusting old 1975 Bedford Firetruck into an absolutely pristine base vehicle for what we hope will be the rolling home on wheels of our dreams …

It has been a massively long haul, almost 4 years in fact, to reach this point in the restoration, and as our regular followers may remember, Tim had been working on the engine in preparation to get it painted up and reunited with the truck. Being the petrol guzzling beast that it is, It’s not the ideal engine for our future travels, but it’s in good working order and it’s what we’ve got, so we’re going with it for now until funds allow us to replace it with a more sustainable alternative.

The whole restoration has been an absolute labour of love ( also tears, tantrums, injuries, literally blood, the occasional complete breakdown and lots and lots of tea) but mostly love and stubbornness) and if you haven’t seen our previous videos, then do go back and watch them, as this has been a real REAL nut and bolt restoration of a vehicle probably destined for the scrap heap. We have done this on the tiniest of budgets with absolutely zero outside help, hence the 4 years … but now, with the engine almost ready to go back in, we swear we can almost taste the sweet satisfaction of victory …

This channel is the story of us, Tim & Lisa, and our attempt to build the World's Greatest HOUSE-on-WHEELS and go anywhere Expedition Truck, on the World's Smallest Budget ... A unique motorhome, if you like, part vintage 70s, part off road overlander, all tiny home on wheels.

We are 2 'old enough to know better' artists from Cornwall in the UK, and together we are building this off-grid home on wheels from the remains of a 1975 Bedford Firetruck.

We bought the truck on eBay at the end of 2020 and had it delivered by an even bigger truck to a huge, old barn-on-a-farm we are renting to use as our workshop whilst we undertake this challenge.

Well, several YEARS and a few set backs later, we’re currently in the process of ‘lovingly’ restoring the base vehicle, taking the whole thing apart, piece by rusty piece, so we can make it all new and shiny again, before we embark on the even bigger task of building a home on its back out of nothing more than grit, imagination, sweat, tears and possibly a bit of magic and wishful thinking!
