Following intense pressure from both Republicans and Democrats, Kimberly Cheatle resigned as director of the US Secret Service for its failure to stop the assassination attempt on former US president Donald Trump. "I take full responsibility for the security lapse," Cheatle said in an email to her staff, "in light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the decision to step down as your director."
