"Lysosomal Diseases - The Great Mimicker in Hepatology" by Pramod Mistry, MD, FAASLD

Dr. Pramod Mistry, a distinguished physician-scientist, specializes in inherited metabolic liver diseases, particularly Gaucher disease. Born in Kenya and raised in England, Dr. Mistry's academic journey began with a major in Biochemistry, focusing his PhD on the effects of dietary cholesterol on LDL receptor activity. Inspired by the Brown and Goldstein lab, he dedicated his career to translational research.
During his tenure at Yale, Dr. Mistry developed a nationally recognized clinical program for Gaucher disease. Collaborative efforts led to groundbreaking achievements, including the first authentic conditional knockout mouse model of Gaucher disease, pioneering GWAS/WES studies, and identifying metabolic and neuroinflammation in Gaucher disease. These studies not only advanced our understanding of disease pathogenesis but also identified therapeutic targets for common diseases.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Mistry serves the Gaucher patient population, holding advisory roles on the National Gaucher Foundation (USA) and Project Hope's Humanitarian Program. He earned his MD from the University of the State of New York in 2015 and has received numerous honors, including being named in the Top Doctors of America in 2005 and receiving the National Gaucher Foundation (USA) award in 2005.
Beyond his clinical and research roles, Dr. Mistry actively contributes to professional service, participating in committees at Yale School of Medicine and organizations like the American Liver Foundation (CT chapter). His dedication to advancing the understanding and treatment of inherited metabolic liver diseases has made him a respected figure, and his contributions continue to shape the field.
