On November 9th 1993, artillery fire cleft the Mostar bridge in two, the bridge that since the year 1566 of the Christian era or 944 of the Mohammedan era had united the two halves of Mostar divided by the Neretva river.

Originally built by the Turkish Architect Hairuddin during the Ottoman occupation of the Balkans, the Old Bridge as the citizens of Mostar call it had become the symbol of the meeting of East and West, a point of encounter between people of the Catholic, Muslim and Orthodox faiths.

After 10 years of various attempts, the bridge was returned to the people of Mostar and the world thanks to the efforts of Unesco and the funding provided by the World Bank and a number of sponsors.

As ever attentive to the importance of the urban context and aware of the enormous symbolic value of the bridges rebirth, iGuzzini illuminazione made a significant contribution to the lighting project of the Old Bridge and the surrounding area.
