DIY - Volkswagen Tailgate / Rear Gate won’t open - solved

This is another simple DIY video that you can repair by yourself in less than 30 min. This process is for Volkswagen Tiguan/Golf rear tailgate that won’t open.

To open the rear tailgate, try push the tailgate in against the weather seal as hard as you can while activate tailgate or trunk release switch. The latch motor will have enough torque to move from lock to unlock position as long as the gate is pushed in.

Tools:
Blade screwdriver to pry the rear inner plastic panel
T40 or M8 torque bit to remove the latch from the gate
Phillip screw driver #2

One of the feedback from the viewer here said he couldn’t open the gate as the motor is not working . He went inside and use a screwdriver inserted in the slot at the lock and slide the latch to manually open it .
