USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) is a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and the flagship of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 1 in the United States Navy. It's the third Nimitz-class supercarrier in the US Navy. The ship is named after Carl Vinson (1883–1981), a Democratic congressman from Georgia who served in the House from 1914 to 1965 and was known as "The Father of the Two-Ocean Navy". The ship was launched in 1980, made its maiden voyage in 1983, and was refueled and overhauled between 2005 and 2009.
