In The Witcher 3, the “Botchling” is a boss creature encountered during the Bloody Baron quest in the “Family Matters” storyline. The Botchling is a cursed creature born from the improperly buried stillborn child of Anna, the Baron’s wife. It attacks Geralt, and you have two main options on how to deal with it:
1. Kill the Botchling: The Botchling transforms into a bigger monster after you attack it and fights you alongside summoned wraiths. It is vulnerable to Cursed Oil and the Axii Sign, and you should use heavy hits while dodging. The spikes on its back protect it from your silver sword until you use Axii to retract them. The fight requires managing wraith enemies too. After killing it, you collect its blood to bring back to the pellar for a ritual.
2. Save and transform the Botchling into a Lubberkin: The other choice is to calm the Botchling when it starts squirming in the Baron’s arms using the Axii Sign, then take it to the fort’s threshold. Along the way, you fight off wraiths it attracts. This lets you bury the creature as a protective spirit, which later aids in finding Anna and Tamara.
The Botchling fight is a significant, challenging part of the quest, involving strategic use of signs, oils, and careful timing to survive both the Botchling and wraith attacks.
