In this video, Associate Professor Harry Minas discusses the concept of "human security" which he argues must complement concerns about state security in refugee policymaking. He also draws upon the larger global context to argue that any "solution" for asylum seekers must not only be regional but global.

The second speaker, Alex Pagliaro, outlines the positive and negative news for refugee advocates, including a description of her visit to the detention centre on Nauru. She goes on to argue that any change will not come from politicians, but through influencing public opinion.
