Knife Self Defense Techniques: Against An Angle 1 Attack With A Long Weapon

Need knife self defense techniques that will help you win a fight? Most envision fighting with a knife as two people with knives dueling with each other. In reality, self defense with a knife is exactly like defending yourself with a firearm — you should train to prevail against a broad range of lethal threats. Since a knife is a contact-distance weapon, it is applicable against all other contact-distance weapons, including long weapons like sticks, clubs and crowbars.

One of the most effective knife-fighting tactics against an attack with a long weapon is a defensive response called a Meet. Instead of moving away from the attack, step inside its arc and cut the attacker’s inner wrist or forearm. This may cripple the attacker’s hand and make him drop his weapon. Immediately follow-up with a check or block using the back of your non-weapon arm to keep from being struck. If your initial cut does not disarm him, continue your defense with targeted cuts to his arm and leg to disable him quickly and decisively.

The Meet Defense Against Attack With a Long Weapon
- Step inside arc of attacker’s weapon.
- Slice attacker’s wrist or forearm.
- Immediately check or block with the back of your non-weapon arm.
- Continue with cuts to arms and legs until attacker is disabled.
