The Blessed Life 5---Breaking the Spirit of Mammon
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. You aren’t able to serve God and mammon.
What is Mammon?
Mammon=Riches=The god of fortune (Assyrians/Aramaic)
Genesis 11:4
Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth." (The Tower of Babel)
We don’t need God, money is the answer for all things.
Arrogant, self-satisfied, Mammon is God
Jesus:You aren’t able to serve God and Mammon (God of fortune)
Mammon≠Money
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Money is not evil but the love of money is a root of all kind of evil. So we do not love it but rather use it to build His Kingdom. Money is a tool, and in human hands it can be blessing or a curse. It should never be our master, but it’s a powerful servant—Dann Farrelly
The Characteristic of Mammon
Financial insecurity+fear
Promise: security, sense of achievement, identity, independence, power & freedom.
If you have $, you will be heard.
Mammon: swindle, steal, rob, usurp
Mammon=selfish
Christian: If I have more money, I can bless more people/I can fix most of my problem.
玛门最大的谎言: $=所有问题的答案is the answer to everything.
Robert Morris
If money can fix it, it’s not a problem. Only God can fix the real problem.
Eg.1 撒该Zacchaeus(路加福音Luke 19:1-10)
After
Selfish
give half of my possessions to the poor, pay back 4X the amount.
Welcome Mammon 3.
welcome Jesus
Some people are so poor, all they have is money 4.
life has come to you and your household (TPT).
The Son of Man has come to seek out and to give life to those who are lost (TPT)
Eg. 2 有钱的少年官a wealthy Jewish nobleman
But there’s still one thing you’re missing in your life…
When the rich leader heard these words, he was devastated, for he was extremely wealthy(TPT).
Bill Johnson:
God offends your mind to reveal your heart!”
The key to prosperity
Generous like my Father
Robert Morris
Total per year
Generosity is an expression of our trust in God’s provision—a declaration that our treasure is truly in heaven. As I take care of His priorities, He will look after mine.
The antidote for poverty---sowing
Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.
In order to change the economic level of your life, you have to give when you are in need, when it is inconvenient, and when you don’t feel like it.
One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
