The Beretta AR70/90 draws lineage to the SIG SG530, which was a joint project between SIG (not Sig Sauer) and Beratta to create a next-generation 5.56-.223 type rifle to compete with the M16. While the partnership project ultimately dissolved, both SIG and Beretta used the blueprints of the SG530 to generate their own 5.56 rifle designs, SIG with the SG540 and SG550... and Beretta with the AR70.

Years later the system was modernized to the AR 70/90 to also integrate a host of improvements, including the STANAG magazine, and was formally adopted for Italian Army military use in 1990.

Within the Italian military, the AR70/90 is cherished as an absolutely reliable machine that will never fail, and many Italian soldiers prefer it over the more accurate, but also more fragile ARX160.

So how did the rifle do on Practical Accuracy? We find out.
