Sims 2
Money Trees were first introduced in The Sims 2, they provide Simoleons that Sims can harvest and increase their income. The money tree is an aspiration reward in The Sims 2. One Money Tree costs 3000 aspiration points. And if they're watered correctly and kept alive, the Money Tree will produce Simoleons every five to eight hours. When the tree is ready for harvest, it will make a "cha-ching" sound and will start glowing golden yellow. How much money the tree will produce depends on the Sim's aspiration level. Visitors that come to your house, can steal from your Money Tree. You should definitely lock the the trees away, especially if you have many, to prevent this from happening.

Sims 3
Money Trees were reintroduced in The Sims 3. But now, Sims cannot buy it as an aspiration award, they'll need to grow it. With the gardening skill, Sims must plant and grow a money tree from an unknown special seed. You can plant a money tree with Gardening level 7. After planting, you'll need to take care of it. you need to water it regularly, tend it and fertilize it, so the tree can have better quality.
The money tree will be ready for harvest every couple of days. When it's ready, there will be money bags hanging off of its branches. The money bags will increase in value in time as the money tree ages and its quality improves.

Sims 4
The Money Tree returned in The Sims 4: Seasons. Like in The Sims 3, Sims need to plant and grow the Money Tree. You'll need to first purchase a money tree seed from the aspiration rewards store for 5,000 satisfaction points. After you plant it, you'll need to take care of it. Sims will need to water it and tend it regularly. Sims with high enough gardening skill can use a fertilizer to increase its quality. After 5 days, The Money Tree will fully grow with perfect golden leaves. The Money Tree will be ready for harvest every day at 6am. When it's ready, you'll see money fruits hidden in the branches.
