Anglo-Saxon Music ~ Caedmon's Hymn (Northumbrian Variant)

Описание к видео Anglo-Saxon Music ~ Caedmon's Hymn (Northumbrian Variant)

Probably the best Anglo-Saxon one yet. This is an authentic recording of Mongolian Anglo-Saxons in performance. Circa 660. But really, it is a downright hymn in Anglo-Saxon, written by Caedmon somewhere in the latter half of the 7th century. Beautiful lyrics in which the everlasting Father is given praise for the work of the universe. Reminds me a tad of psalm 8.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now we ought to praise the Guardian of the heavenly kingdom,
The might of the Creator and his conception,
The work of the glorious Father, as he of each of the wonders,
Eternal Lord, established the beginning.
He first created for the sons of men
Heaven as a roof, holy Creator;
Then the middle-earth, the Guardian of mankind,
The eternal Lord, afterwards made
The earth for men, the Lord almighty.
