JAMES BROWN III - The Source of Magic (full album, 2022)

For my final feature of this week’s Dungeon Synth Sunday, as we did in last week’s edition, we climax with a suitably cosmic spectacular of an album – this time, in the form of James Brown III’s The Source of Magic – the latest album from Horus, of Rising Beast records; artist behind the magnificent Moonknight, raw black metal of Vorpal Sword, brute majesty of Harassor and other projects.

It has been two years since his previous album under his James Brown III moniker – perhaps his real name? Though who can say what is real, once your vision starts shifting, and the doors of perception swing open thricefold on their dissipating hinges as The Source of Magic begins to reveal its secrets.

As the pulsing intro quickens in pace, kaleidoscopic plains of kosmische trance and fuzzing riffs unfurl in myriad interdimensional flights before you, as technicolour stars stud the sky, and the dream ritual begins.
