Luca Vincenzo Cappelli, MD, PhD, Sapienza University of Rome, Rome, Italy, and Weill Cornell Medicine, New York City, NY, and Danilo Fiore, PhD, University of Naples Federico II, Naples, Italy, and Weill Cornell Medicine, New York City, NY, discuss their project to generate patient-derived tumor xenograft (PDX) mouse models of T-cell lymphoma (TCL). Dr Cappelli and Dr Fiore begin by discussing the difficulty in finding appropriate treatments for T-cell lymphoma, given the heterogeneity of the disease and lack of representative models. They then explain how their PDX mice are stable models which represent the disease’s heterogeneity and can be used to carry out genetic tests and drug screens that are specific to subtypes of TCL. Finally, Dr Cappelli and Dr Fiore explain that these PDX models can be used to track clonal evolution. This interview took place at the 28th Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA) 2023 in Frankfurt, Germany.
