Four Corners Australia conducts a harrowing investigation into the deaths of two children that authorities knew were at risk but failed to protect.

Four months after this episode of Four Corners was broadcast nationally, Carolyn Richards, (the NT Ombudsman featured in this program) was summoned to the office of then children and families Minister Kon Vatskalis (ALP), and stripped of her power to investigate child protection matters.

"Shortly after my investigation began, the government introduced amendments to the Ombudsman Act and the Care and Protection of Children Act in the March 2011 sittings of the Legislative Assembly. The amendments removed the ombudsman's power to investigate complaints about vulnerable children" - Carolyn Richard, former Ombudsman of the NT [2016, ABC News]

Kon Vatskalis (ALP) is the current Lord Mayor of Darwin.
